Physical Education

BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport.

The course will help students to develop a detailed insight into physiology, fitness training, performance analysis and its impact on you as a performer, you will also spend time planning a career for yourself within the sport sector. The course consists of 4 units over 2 years:


Anatomy and Physiology: The unit is exam based and covers 5 body systems and includes how they work and the short- and long-term impact exercise has on these systems. The systems are as follows - Skeletal, Muscular, Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Energy Systems.


Practical Sports Performance: This unit will be coursework and looks at the students' knowledge and practical ability in one team and one individual sport. It will focus on skills, techniques, and tactics, as well as reflecting on your own performance in comparison to that of an elite performer. Knowledge of rule and regulations will also be part of the coursework.


Professional Development in the Sports Industry: This unit will be coursework and helps the students to plan for a career in sport. Helping them to structure the next 10 years considering grades needed to access university, where they want to study, along with what extras they need to help them gain the job they desire. This unit also gives the students chance to be interviewed, which will then be analysed by them and their peers.


Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being: This unit is assessed through an exam based around a fitness client, assessing their lifestyle and nutritional intake, making judgements and modifications that will enable the client to live a healthier lifestyle. Knowledge of various forms of training and client screening will enable a student to be successful in this unit.


Enrichment – takes place on a Wednesday period 5. This involves recreational sport and fixtures throughout the whole academic year.  Inter tutor and house competitions will take place during this time.
